Bangladesh produced 2,583.3 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd) of natural gas in a 24-hour period, using around 67 per cent of its total daily production and supply capacity, according to the latest report released by Petrobangla on Tuesday.
Of the total output, domestic gas fields supplied 1,599.9mmcfd, while regasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG) contributed 983.4mmcfd to the national supply.
The report, covering production and distribution data for September 20–21, said the country's total gas production and supply capacity stood at 3,854mmcfd from 119 producing wells.
International oil companies (IOCs) accounted for the largest share of domestic gas production, supplying 875.2mmcfd. Chevron's Bibiyana gas field alone produced 706.2mmcfd.
Among the state-owned companies, Bangladesh Gas Fields Company Limited (BGFCL) produced 481.8mmcfd, Sylhet Gas Fields Company Limited (SGFL) 139.6mmcfd and Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company Limited (Bapex) 103.5mmcfd.
Meanwhile, 983.4mmcfd of gas was supplied from imported LNG through Rupantarita Prakritik Gas Company Limited (RPGCL), against its regasification capacity of 1,100mmcfd.
Alongside gas production, 5,596.6 tonnes of condensate were produced during the period. IOC-operated fields accounted for 4,536 tonnes of the total condensate output.
