The process of sending 200,000 workers from Bangladesh to Malaysia will begin in phases by the end of September and is expected to be completed within the next six months, State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam has said.

The state minister made the remarks while speaking to journalists after a meeting between Malaysian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Mohd Shuhada Othman and Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan at the Secretariat on Sunday (August 30).

“The manpower export from Bangladesh will begin in phases by the end of September and will be completed within the next six months, according to the ambassador,” the state minister said.

Responding to a question about sending 200,000 workers, he said, “A total of 200,000 workers will go through their listed companies.” Apart from this, Malaysia will take another 10,000 workers at zero cost, he said.

“Besides this, they will take 10,000 workers completely free of charge, meaning there will be no cost involved,” the state minister said.

A representative accompanying him clarified, “Zero cost.”

“Zero cost. That process will also begin in phases towards the end of September,” the state minister said.

Asked whether there had been any discussion about a letter sent by the Bangladesh government to Malaysia regarding the import of LNG, the state minister said there had been no discussion on the matter.
