Stocks ended higher on Wednesday, snapping a four-day losing streak, as bargain hunters returned to the market to pick up recently beaten-down shares at relatively attractive prices.

The upbeat trend sustained throughout the session amid broad-based buying interest, with investors showing renewed interest in stocks that had undergone sharp corrections in recent sessions.

The prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), DSEX, gained nearly 39 points, or 0.72 percent, to close at 5,464, recovering part of the 125-point loss recorded over the previous four sessions.

The blue-chip DS30 index advanced 19 points to 2,096, while the DSES index, which tracks Shariah-compliant stocks, rose 11 points to 1,086.

Market breadth remained positive, with 191 issues advancing against 134 declining, while 66 remained unchanged on the DSE.

Turnover increased 7 per cent to Tk 6.05 billion from Tk 5.64 billion in the previous session.

Evince Textile topped the turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 384 million changing hands, followed by Paramount Textile, BRAC Bank, Saiham Textile, and Orion Infusion.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed higher, with its All Share Price Index (CASPI) gaining 98 points to 14,655. The CSE Selective Categories Index (CSCX) rose 70 points to 9,009.
