The Portuguese Football Federation is set to suspend Cristiano Ronaldo after the star forward left the national team camp following a confrontation with coach Jorge Jesus. According to media reports, Ronaldo's suspension came under the federation's internal regulations, concerning unauthorised departures.
The case has been forwarded to a disciplinary council, which will evaluate the circumstances and decide on the duration of the punishment. The captain could face a suspension ranging from one to six months from national team duties, according to the federation's guidelines. However, Ronald had hinted at never returning in national colours.
In a public apology to fans and teammates, Ronaldo admitted that his actions warranted consequences. He also said that being the captain of the side made things worse and that he will accept whatever the disciplinary council decides without objection.
