Rohit Sharma has finally broken Sachin Tendulkar's 22-year-old record. At the end of his career, the Indian star made a new history by touching the fastest 10,000 runs as an opener in ODIs, leaving behind the homegrown legend.

Rohit set this record in the third ODI against the West Indies. He needed just 2 runs to reach the milestone. In the fourth ball he faced at the crease, he opened the scoring with two runs against Jayden Sills, as well as completed 10,000 runs as an opener.

For this, Rohit had to play 202 innings.

Sachin Tendulkar took 214 innings, which he achieved in 2004.

Rohit Sharma is only the fourth batsman to score 10,000 runs as an opener in ODIs. Apart from Sachin Tendulkar, West Indies' Chris Gayle and Sri Lanka's Sanath Jayasuriya also achieved this feat. Gayle took 268 innings while Jayasuriya took 303 innings.

Rohit also set a new record in the last match. The 39-year-old batter touched the milestone of 12,000 runs in ODIs. In the third ODI, he played an innings of 92 off 85 balls but did not get a century for a little.
