On Monday, the Dhaka court rejected the bail application of film actor Ashraful Haque Don, who is the fourth person to be named as an accused in the murder case of the popular film actor Salman Shah.
On Monday, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Monjurul Islam passed the order following a hearing.
Muhammad Shamsuddoha Sumon, the Additional Public Prosecutor at the Dhaka Metropolitan Court, confirmed the matter to the media.
During the hearing, the defense presented seven arguments in support of Don's innocence. They cited two inquest reports, two autopsy reports, and reports on viscera and chemical analyses to claim that Salman Shah had died by suicide.
The bail petition stated that Don had no prior knowledge of the incident and had only been implicated in the case to harass him. It also stated that he had been in custody since his arrest on 5 August.
The defense also cited Don’s physical illness, his role as the sole breadwinner in his family, and his fixed abode to assure the court that he would not abscond if granted bail.
However, the court rejected the bail petition and ordered that Don remain in judicial custody.
