Bangladeshi director Rezwan Shahriar Sumit’s film ‘Master’ has won the best screenplay award at the 53rd Belgrade International Film Festival in Serbia, marking another international honour for the film.

The screenplay of the political drama, co-written by Sumit and Sabbir Hossain Shovon, received the award in the festival’s World Competition section for its sharp narrative structure and thematic exploration of political corruption and personal transformation, said a press release on Monday.

Sharing the information, director Sumit in a Facebook post congratulated his co-writer and thanked the jury. The World Competition jury was presided over by prominent Serbian film theorist, critic and screenwriter Saša Radojević, alongside film director and Balkan Panorama Film Festival founder Sali Saliji Salini and film producer Martin Milinković.

Sumit also wrote, ‘The question rings so much louder now: When will audiences in Bangladesh finally get to watch this film?’

The 53rd Belgrade International Film Festival was held from October 2 to October 11 in Serbia. Master previously won the prestigious Big Screen Award at the 55th International Film Festival Rotterdam in Netherlands and the Best Feature Award at the 22nd Lucca Film Festival in Italy.

The cast of the film features the lead character Nasir Uddin Khan as Jahir (Master), alongside Azmeri Haque Badhon, Zakia Bari Mamo, Fazlur Rahman Babu, Sharif Siraj, Tasnova Tamanna and Lutfar Rahman George.
