US President Donald Trump has named Katie Zacharias as the next White House press secretary. Katie, who currently works at Trump Media and Technology Group, will become the sixth chief White House spokesperson in Trump's two terms if officially appointed. She previously served briefly as a spokesperson for the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
In a social media post on Friday, Trump described Katie as a "loyal" and dedicated supporter and member of the "Make America Great Again" (MAGA) campaign.
White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt left her post in August. According to various media reports, she has joined the US media outlet Fox News.
Announcing Katie's name on Truth Social, Trump wrote, "She was previously involved in my election campaign. She played a role in important swing states in the election. We won seven out of seven states."
Expressing hope that Katie will do well in her new role, Trump also wrote, "I am confident that Katie will bring excellent results for our country as the next White House Press Secretary. She is respected by the media, the American people, and my administration. She will work with all of them very well."
Katie posted on social media to thank Trump. She wrote, "It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve President Trump and the American people at this important juncture in our country's 250-year history."
Katie also wrote, "Trump has shown America that we can be great again. He is working every day to make that a reality."
Katie has also expressed interest in working with the White House press corps and journalists across the country.
Katie, 42, is a political strategist and conservative commentator who has worked for Newsmax and Fox News and has long been involved in Republican Party politics.
Katie worked as an intern at the Republican National Committee and also worked in the White House Political Affairs Office under President George W. Bush in 2006.
Katie began working as a senior communications advisor at Trump's media company and Truth Social Platform in June, a position she still lists on her LinkedIn profile. She previously worked for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) from February to March.
